FAQ

Q: Am I limited to the designs in the book?

A: In more than 20 years, we have never built the same home twice. Use our floorplans as starting points; then with use of our Computer-Aided Design System, we'll create your home from the ground up. We can even show you what it will look like before a single log is cut.

Q: What about insulation?

A: Logs are a natural insulator. Millions of tiny cells in the wood trap air to provide one of the most efficient insulations known to man. Logs are even more effective because they radiate back warm air in the winter and cool air in the summer. Conventional walls or ceilings in your home will use standard insulation.

Q: Don't logs settle over time?

A: As with all houses made of wood, there will be settling around windows and doors in a log home. But unlike other log home manufacturers, we have a policy of using timber that has been seasoned naturally. In addition, without affecting the structure, we design each home to absorb the small amount of settling that naturally occurs.

Q: How do you protect the outside of the house from weathering?

A: Once the log shell is up, a preservative is applied to the outside by brush or airless sprayer. We can recommend and supply many good products that give you a choice of color and other properties.

Q: What kind of foundation is best?

A: Our homes have been built on basements, crawl spaces, concrete slabs, and wood foundations. Local codes, soil conditions, and personal preference will determine the actual size and style.

Q: What are my heating options?

A: Due to the superior insulating quality of log walls, any system you can put in a conventional house will work as, not more, efficiently in a log home.

Q: Does Rocky build the homes or just design them?

A: We do not actually construct the home. That is typically done by a licensed contractor or the home buyer. We provide you with a list of contractors in your area who meet our rigid standards for construction.

Q: Where do the wiring and plumbing go?

A: Wiring is generally run through the logs, so only the outlets are visible. The plumbing, as in conventional houses, is installed in the interior stud through the walls.

Q: How mush will a log home cost?

A: There are many factors involved. While we can tell you the price of a specific plan, your construction and furnishing costs will determine the ultimate cost. We urge you to your builder, but log homes can be highly competitive with custom conventional buildings of similar quality.

Q: What about financing my log home?

A: Financing a Rocky Mountain Log Home is no different than financing any other type of home. While we don't provide financing, we work in conjunction with national mortgage companies who specialize in log home financing.

Q: What does the Rocky Warranty cover?

A: Our warranty is the best in the business, because it is backed by a third party. Everything we manufacture is covered for a full 10 years after your home is constructed. This includes all logs and timbers, the Weather Lock system, factory milling, and joinery.

Q: Where can I see a Rocky Mountain Log Home?

A: Give us a call here in Bozeman, we would love to give you a tour of our show home. 406-586-7673 call for an appointment.
